Christine trained as a nurse at St Georges Hospital London. Soon after qualifying, she became interested in urinary incontinence, working first in Gynaecology, then Urology and later setting up a district-wide continence service in Bloomsbury Health Authority, London. She was later the first Director of the Continence Foundation. Since 1995 she has worked at St Mark’s Hospital, a colorectal centre, where she leads an internationally-recognised nurse-led service for people with constipation and faecal incontinence. In 2004 she was appointed as Director of the new Burdett Institute of Gastrointestinal Nursing www.burdettinstitute.org.uk.
Christine writes and lectures extensively. She represents nursing on the board of the International Continence Society; chairs the World Health Organisation consultation on incontinence committee on faecal incontinence; is an editor for the Cochrane Collaboration incontinence group; and is associate editor of “Gastrointestinal Nursing”. She is editor of a new book “Bowel Continence Nursing” and the website www.bowelcontrol.org.uk.
