About Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Most individuals are surprised to learn they are not alone with symptoms of IBS. In fact, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) affects approximately 10-20% of the general population. It is the most common disease diagnosed by gastroenterologists (doctors who specialize in medical treatment of disorders of the stomach and intestines) and one of the most common disorders seen by primary care physicians.

Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland
The Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland is a multi-professional organisation representing surgeons, physicians, oncologists, radiologists, histopathologists, nurses and members of allied professions, all of whom have a major interest in the science, investigation and treatment of colorectal disease. A main aim of the Association is to promote best evidence-based practice that progressively improves the treatment of patients with colorectal disease. In this respect, optimal management of bowel cancer forms a significant part of its role. The Association is proud to have produced comprehensive the “Guidelines for the Management of Colorectal Cancer”, which have been disseminated worldwide and used as the basis for National Guidelines in many other countries.
Another important aspect of the Association’s work is to promote best clinical practice, ensuring that scarce health resources are used efficiently and effectively. Research into bowel cancer and other colorectal conditions is actively encouraged and funded, and to this effect the Association has established the very successful Colon and Rectal Disease Research Foundation. Your own contribution to these research funds will support important national research projects, and details of how to do this can be accessed easily on this website.
