BSC (Hons) in Gastrointestinal Nursing

Programme Outline
Patients present with gastrointestinal disorders in a variety of clinical settings. This programme is aimed at nurses working with patients with gut disorders and is designed to extend practitioners' skills in gastrointestinal nursing, enabling you to meet the challenge of working in partnership with these patients. Throughout the programme you will be encouraged to develop skills and knowledge within the context of our own practice area. This is a flexible programme, which will enable you to examine and critique your own practice and deliver evidence based care to your patients.
Entry requirements for this programme:
- effective NMC registration
- working in a clinical area with GI patients
- DipHE or equivalent of 120 credits at level 5
The BSc (Hons) programme can be offered on a three year (part-time) basis and is also possible through alternative patterns of study. Attendance will be either one day per week or in study block format. Programmes start each September.
Students progressing to the BSc will undertake a research or practice development project relevant to their own are of practice.

- Developing Professional Practice (15 credits)
- Methods and Approaches to Clinical Research OR Evidence Based Practice (15 credits)
- Research based dissertation OR practice development project (30 credits)

- Stoma Care Nursing - Principles & Practice
- Endoscopy Nursing
- Inflammatory Bowel Disease - Level 6
- Bowel Continence
- Children's Gastrointestinal Nursing
- Colorectal Cancer Nursing Practice
- Clinical Nutrition
- Body Image & Sexuality in GI Practice
or other professional relevant courses chosen from the current prospectus. Please refer to prospectus for course/programme costs.
